Fish with Legs

“Amanda Ziemele in her exhibition Fish with legs reflects on the events that happened 365 million years ago when fish started to move out of the water to live on land for different reasons. One of them is Ventastega curonica, its fossil was found in Latvia. Four legs are the most specific characteristics of this creature, however, fossils of those legs are not found yet. Additionally, it is said that Ventastega is a dead-end of the evolution as there is no further development of this species.

The known, the unknown, reasons and consequences are material for Amanda Ziemele’s artistic research. The ”dead-end” in the context of the exhibition is considered being an opportunity to meet a creature that we cannot categorise.”
